Laura Bassett is a lifelong Oceanside resident, businesswoman, and community leader running for California State Senate in District 38. She and her husband Taylor have been married 32 years and have six grown children, two sons-in-law, and a granddaughter.
Laura earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Southern California in 1989 and has built a career grounded in financial expertise and public service. She is the founder and operator of two businesses in real estate and fiduciary services, a licensed real estate professional since 2003, and a licensed professional fiduciary since 2011.
Her public service includes serving as a San Diego County Civil Service Commissioner, Ambassador for the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, and active member of Rotary. She has also volunteered extensively with the Historic Star Theater, supporting arts and youth programs in the coastal region.
Laura is running to bring common-sense leadership to Sacramento, with a focus on affordability, coastal protection, and public safety for the families of District 38.
Laura is committed to tackling California's affordability crisis head-on. She will fight to lower the cost of living for working families by opposing unnecessary tax increases, reducing regulatory burdens on housing, and supporting policies that keep gas, grocery, and utility costs in check. She believes every family in District 38 deserves to be able to afford to stay in the community they love.
As a lifelong Oceanside resident, Laura understands that protecting our coastline is essential to our way of life. She supports science-based planning to address coastal erosion, safeguard public beach access, and preserve the natural environment for future generations. Our coastline is a defining part of who we are in District 38.
Laura believes safe communities are the foundation of a thriving district. She will stand with law enforcement, support first responders, and push back against policies that put criminals ahead of victims. She is committed to ensuring District 38 families feel safe in their neighborhoods, schools, and public spaces.
Senate Republican Leader Brian Jones: "I have had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside Laura, and I have seen firsthand her commitment to making life more affordable for the families of District 38 and strengthening the communities that define our region."
Assemblymember Carl DeMaio: "Laura Bassett has been a strong voice for common sense in San Diego by standing up against costly and unfair tax hikes that hurt working families and fighting to restore public safety and secure our border."
